Sirius hadn't grown up around here, not like Remus. He had only started living here in the past few years, with school done and his family and him being mutually done with one another. Even so, he had still grown up with the stories of the beasts in the woods. And of the crazed man who never came into town.
He knew not to go into the forest during a full moon even before he knew why. Of course, now that he slept with Remus every night except those full moon ones, he knew so much more. So much more than he wanted to know.
Sirius was just human. He may have a bit more of a penchant for getting into and causing trouble than most, but he was still only human. He wasn't supposed to be a hero in a story like this and he was painfully aware of that. He was only human. Only human and walking through the forest. At least it was still daytime, but that didn't mean his heart beat any slower.
Remus had told him to get Taliesin. Remus, apparently, remembered playing with Taliesin when he'd been a child. All Sirius had heard from everyone else was that the man was better left alone. Dangerous, feral, deadly.
But supposedly, he never harmed humans. Anyway, Sirius had always had more courage than foresight, so he tried to use that to his advantage. He stopped on the edge of the clearing, calling out to that wooden shed. "Oi!"
How did he even address him? "CRAZY MAN! You home?!"
It was a simple warning but he found it was pretty effective. He was trying to have a relaxing day. He made himself some mutton from an ewe he'd caught, he'd fought with his shitty pocket TV to try and get a signal (alas, no luck) and now he was painting. He found painting a good hobby. Therapeutic, relaxing, tranq-- FUCK! His paints were running because his brush had been stuck at the wrong point for too long, distracted by the yelling. That bastard ruined his painting. "Fuck, fuck, fuck! Fucking fucker."
He smashed the easel over and turned to the boarded up window, stomping over so he could see through the wood he'd used to cover it. Fucking shrimp was bothering him.
Obviously, Sirius didn't get off his property. Instead he straightened up, flicked his hair back and tried a charming smile in the direction of the shed. He had no idea whether his charm worked through boarded up windows or on angry, lone wolfmen, but no time to find out like the present. "My apologies, sir, but I can't do that."
He could, he supposed. He just really didn't want to. "I need your help."
What did he do if this werewolf rushed him? He was an alpha, whatever that meant. More powerful. Potentially still very dangerous without the full moon. He didn't even know. He had a silver necklace that Remus had given him once, but he wasn't sure whether that had much self-defence value. Mostly sentimental, he supposed.
Had to appeal to a beastly man's humanity somehow. "Please. My boyfriend's in danger."
"AND?!" His boyfriend was in danger and he was supposed to care? Urgh, idiots. He sighed and walked over to the front door, kicking it open but staying inside. He just wanted to look at Sirius better and make sure that Sirius couldn't much look at him. He was shaded in the dark, it hide most of his features and kept him from a public viewing.
"If you don't fuck off, I'll eat your sodding boyfriend. And you too! Cachgi! Dos i chwarae efo dy nain."
Hopefully what he lacked in Welsh knowledge, the shithead would make up for in tonal awareness.
All right. All right, scary. He wasn't denying that it was scary, but he had faced scary. He had gotten caught after schedule by his head of house more than once, that had been straight up terrifying. Anyway, Welsh cursing he had gotten very exposed to these days.
He reached up to rub the back of his neck and tried stepping closer. Less with the smiling now, but sincerely looking for help. Maybe that was the better approach. "If you can't help me, he's going to be eaten anyway."
He didn't really like saying that, but he supposed that was the implication there. "And they spoke of turning me. Before I managed to run here."
"Then maybe stop trying to date a werewolf, you barmy little cunt. It tends to end that way. A scratch, a bite and you're fucked." With a loud, annoyed sigh, Taliesin stepped outside and squinted at the light. He didn't really look strong in the sense of built or muscular but he was a big guy with a dark look in his eyes and honestly, even in his human form, there was something wolf-like about him.
He walked passed Sirius and towards the trees, looking up and squinting in annoyance.
"You fucking hear that? The birds are coming back. To Port Talbot. Bloody loud buggers. I can't get a fucking moments peace out here without their shitty noise." He listened to them tweet but a bit longer before he ran at the tree and started attacking the stump. "FUCK OFF! FUCK OFF! WHAT? ARE YOU HERE TO TORMENT ME? WHAT DO YOU WANT?"
Sirius really wished he had Remus with him right now. Not just because he would have felt braver while holding his hand and not just because he needed Remus to reassure him that this man could actually help them and wasn't too insane, but most of all because he needed Remus's good influence to not try and poke the bear. Or poke the werewolf, as the case might be.
"...you sure showed those birds, sir."
He cleared his throat, trying to debate the best strategy here. Perhaps it was best to get to the point. "A vampire has come to the village. A master vampire." Whatever that meant. It all still sounded ludicrous to him. "He's got Remus. And some of the other werewolves."
"Oh, has he? Well, he won't bloody get me." Glaring at the tree tops, he waited for the silence before he finally turned away and looked at Sirius. "There's no such thing as 'master' vampires any more than there is an 'alpha' wolf. It's just whatever or whoever happens to be the bigger, better bastard."
Coming away from Sirius, he walked towards the back of his house and opened up a wooden box. The buzzing was a clue as to what it was - bees. Lots of bees.
"Hello, darlings." He mumbled quietly to them. "Any honey?"
"He's a pretty big bastard." Sirius could say that much. "Also a creep." Definitely a creep, which made him feel even worse about Remus being with said bastard. He followed behind Taliesin, but stopped when he heard the buzzing. He didn't think being attacked by bees would really help anyone.
He was also starting to fear that Taliesin wouldn't help anyone either. "They want to drink their blood. Blood slaves. That's what they said."
"Werewolf blood tastes better. It's more potent, can last longer in them. It's more ... economical." That was what he assumed was the draw. Longer lasting, better tasting. And he had been a willing donor for a long time. What an idiot he was. If he ever saw Kian again, he'd make sure he understood that he had pissed off the wrong man.
"Vampires think we're dogs but they'll still drink from us."
He checked for mites in the box and let the bees fly around his hands as he worked. "They're all for using you too. That's what the bastards do. They use everyone for their blood. You, me, your boyfriend. We'll all fodder." With a sad sigh, he set the lid back onto the box and turned to Sirius. What the hell did he want from him?
"I reckon, yeah. Don't think the creep talked about turning me for my sake either." Great. Just great. What did he do now? Clearly there was no help incoming from here. "You don't really give a fuck, do you?"
Of course not. Why would he? He was some loon in a shack in the forest. Why had Remus even send him this way? "Remus thought you'd help, I guess. He's like that. He believes in people."
Always saw the good in everyone and never gave up on anyone either. Sirius was a lot more cynical.
"I can't help." He wasn't a helper, he knew that much about himself. He wasn't helpful, he was mostly a hinderance. "Look - I can come and kill some vampires but that's all I can do. If you want me to rescue anyone, that's your thing. I don't care for the ... thinking part. It's boring."
He could happily go and kill some of those fuckers, maybe to his death, but he couldn't offer much more than that.
"I'm not even sure which one is even Remus." He kept talking about this boy like he knew him but he didn't know any lads that had an R name. He knew a girl that did but it was Remy, not Remus. "I've not been in the pack for a long while."
"Remy. He used to be Remy. A girl. He's trans, so..." Did that man know what that meant? "He said he used to play with you. You'd read stories. You were his favourite. He's the most brilliant lad, he loves books still." And right now he was possibly being tortured somewhere and all he could do was try and talk to someone he wasn't sure was all there.
"I'm just me. I've never killed a vampire." He had never killed anyone. He'd fought some bullies back at school and that was about it. "But I will try if it means I can save my boyfriend."
"Oooh, Remy. She's sweet, ain't she? She's a real smart one. I always wondered why she was still in the pack. Must be a glutton for punishment to date that one. She's never well." She had been sickly since she had come to them and it had never changed. He wasn't sure why sometimes Sirius said he but he supposed it was nice she had someone.
She was probably not holding up well, given her weak disposition. Would she even survive vampires drinking from her.
"He cares about his family. I can't relate to that either." He really couldn't. Although, to be fair, he did care about Remus's family, so maybe he could relate on that level.
When he realised that Taliesin might be willing to help after all, some tension left momentarily and he smiled, relief flooding him. All right, maybe together they could do this. Maybe there was at least hope. "They are by the old church. The abandoned one, the one that's in ruins. They sleep under there, I think? I don't really know anything about vampires. How can you kill them?"
"Wooden stake, fire, sunlight - the usual." Taliesin sighed loudly and went into his shack again, leaving the door open as he started to raid. "We need stakes." He pulled open the closet and dragged out his duffle bag. Stakes, holy water, lighter fluid and several lighters.
"Best thing to do is usually to torch the place but I guess if werewolves are there, it'd take them down too."
He started to pawn through his bag and then found his favourite lighter, dropping down to sit on the floor. He pulled out his cigarettes and lit one up. "OI! GET YOUR ARSE IN HERE!"
Sirius stepped inside, unsure of the integrity of the building as well as of how long he could stand the smell. For the moment, he simply walked in and looked around, raising his eyebrows. "Damn. Who's Kian?"
Maybe that wasn't a good question to ask. Kind of hard to ignore the repeated threats against Kian scrawled all over the walls though. He looked at the collection inside that bag as he stepped closer. Huh. Maybe this lone werewolf was a vampire hunter.
"A gross bastard who hopefully fell into his own arse and suffocated."
He held out the stake to Sirius and waited for him to hold. "Now focus, you dreamy eyed cunt. What we do is we take this sharp wooden stick and we put it here." He held it over his heart and slowly blew smoke out of his other as he slowly rotated the stick so Sirius could see it. "Not centre, not fucking wherever you fancy. You go for the fucking bugger heart. So get your shit together and make sure you know where you're stabbing or you're fucked."
He set one aside for himself, pocketed his lighter and then looked up at Sirius from where he was sitting. "When do you fancy going? My soap is on but I can't get a signal to save my arse so I guess I'm fucking free."
"Right. And then they just... die." Odd. Scary. But he was ready to do whatever it took for Remus's sake. He took the stake that Taliesin had handed him and turned it in his hand, weighing as he tried to think about it. The sooner the better, he supposed. Especially while the sun was still up.
"We can go right now. I'll tape you your soap from now on." Whatever it took. He tried a bit of a smile, hoping to bond slightly with the man he was about to go vampire hunting with. "Remy's called Remus now. He's a boy. Just... You know, so you know."
He was trying to keep him from being misgendered. But keeping him alive was obviously even more important.
"She's a girl, I'm pretty sure. I knew her when she was first born. Pink blanket and everything. How the bloody hell is she a girl? She might be having you on." Getting to his feet, he went to find his boots and jacket, stomping on his ruined canvas as he did so because fuck painting. He could get his rage out with murder - always nicer.
He sat on the couch and slowly put his shoes on, looking ahead at the wall. Fuck you, Kian. Fuck you to hell and back. Fucking bastard.
"She's a smart girl, you know? Terrible at physical stuff. Asthma or whatever. Could never run with us lot." He turned and gave Sirius a look. "Though she definitely pulled well. You're from money, ain't you? I can fucking tell."
"Was. Very much the wrong tense all over here. I was from money, then my family disinherited me for being gay and a general disappointment." Which he was quite cheerfully proud of, naturally. It was his proudest achievement, much as it hadn't exactly been a challenge. "And Remus was a girl. He has transitioned. He's a boy now. Well, a man."
Still looked more like a boy, but that was another sore spot. He just had a slender frame. "Anyway, I'm poor, I got nothing. But I look good, so that's what I bring to the table."
"You look good? Really? If you fucking say so." With his boots on, he grabbed his jacket and then looked the punk up and down before shaking his head. "You're okay. I guess. Get your arse moving, prince charming. Let's go before the sun sets, gives us an advantage."

He was always a bit of an ugly girl, being nice and all, so she'd be a better looking lad actually." So hey - supportive? Kinda?
"He's handsome. He has the most beautiful eyes." And the nicest smile, the best laugh. He loved even his sighs and his freckles and there was nothing he didn't love about him. Especially right now, when he was terrified he'd never see him again. That he'd fail to save him.
He looked at the bees and waved sadly at them, then started walking next to Taliesin through the forest. With the stake in his hand. Life had been strange, as of late. "The vampire is called Lazar. I don't know the other names. I think there's around six of them... And Lazar said he's over two thousand years old."
What did he know? He did talk about being at the crucifixion.
"They all claim that shit. Tell you what, we'll go there and see how many we can off. If it's too hard, just fucking grab your mate and leg it. I don't need your back up." He didn't know the name Lazar but he wasn't surprised. There was about a billion of these old or pseudo old vampires in the world.
"I got to assume they're a thick bunch if they took Remus for blood."
What fucking blood? He was scrawny as all fucking hell. It was like drinking a half crushed juice box. Drips and drabs. "The church ain't far, I'm impressed they were smart enough to leave me alone."
"They can probably feel it, can't they? That power in the air. Like electricity." It was all around Taliesin. Feeling much more alive and warmer, hot almost, compared to what he'd felt near the vampires. "I don't know if they're all that strong. Just stronger than us. Probably not stronger than you, sir."
There, he was full of confidence. "If I was a vampire and I had power, I'd be in a city. Not out here."
